Study on Appropriate warehousing and collateral management systems in sub-Saharan Africa, Volume 1, 2 and 3 (USB stick)

‘The aim of this study is to foster the emergence of warehouse operators and collateral managers who can provide… services that facilitate access to warehouse receipt finance in favour of smallholder farms.’
Financing solutions tailored to specific parts of the value chain are vital to improve farmers’ access to finance. Warehouse receipt financing provides one such tool. It enables the post-harvest part of the chain to work more efficiently, while farmers who can access warehouse receipt finance have more flexibility in the timing of their sales. From the financier’s perspective, meanwhile, warehouse receipts can facilitate lending to farmers when used as collateral.
This wide-ranging and highly detailed three-volume report features research carried out by a large, multidisciplinary team in nine African countries – including Cameroon, Ghana, Mozambique and Uganda. A standard reference text on the topic that will be influential for years to come, it identifies bottlenecks to the wider use of warehouse receipt finance and formulates proposals for action.
The research focuses on four main types of finance, including community inventory credit for smallholder farmers. Financing against commodities stored in both private and public warehouses, and lending against the security of current or future production are also all covered.
This handy media product holds all three volumes on a single USB stick. Volume I presents key findings from the research, Volume II provides the technical country reports, while Volume III reviews applicable laws and regulations in five of the subject countries.
